Journal Entry for April 1st, 2022

I met the strangest person at the store today. And the strangest thing about them was how unstrange they were. I swear I met my doppleganger. Aside from his completely frantic disposition, I swear he looked exactly like me. I mean, exactly. And then stranger still was the story he told me. (Okay, so I guess scratch what I wrote before; his story was the strangest thing about him.)

This guy ran straight up to me and asked me a bunch of questions about what day it was. What year it was. Stuff about the news. Something about that guy who played Fresh Prince years ago. All kinds of obscure crap like that.

After I answered some of his random questions, he told me–get this–he told me he was from the future. 2040 something or other. And he called it “the darkest timeline.” So, not just the future, but some kind of parallel universe or something.

I don’t know if it was because this guy looked a lot like me, or that my curiosity got the best of me or something, but rather than calling for security and getting away from this disturbed person, I listened to his story.

So, supposedly in a couple years from now there’s going to be some kind of nuclear holocaust that wipes out half the world’s population. And then the survivors are left with roving bands of warlords and cannibals and all kinds of crazy shit. Your typical post-apocalyptic blah.

He had all these peculiar details about it, but it all sounded so ridiculous and unoriginal. Like, as it turns out it was instigated by Russia. I was like “Dude, the cold war’s over, lol” But he didn’t miss a beat.

And then even weirder was the details he told me about this alternate past. Like, apparently Donald Trump ran for president and actually got elected. And then there was this massive plague that came from people eating bats in China or something.

It was some weird stuff. And I honestly didn’t know if he was joking with me or not. He seemed genuinely disturbed, and yet elated to be “back.”

At some point this guy tapped me on the shoulder and I felt like I kind of blacked out or something. I just had this real sharp sense of nausea, and closed my eyes. When I opened them, this guy was gone. Like he totally disappeared. All in all such a weird experience.

Just felt like sharing, because I can’t remember the last time I remembered meeting anyone so clearly mentally disturbed. With the United States having the best mental health support system in the world, I guess it’s not surprising. Although, that same day coincidentally I saw another pretty rare sight. After this peculiar man disappeared I saw at least half a dozen people wearing masks in the grocery store.

Such an odd day.
