Different Vessels: The Album

Back in 1998, one of the few CDs I owned was “X Files: The Album.” It came out just before I turned 15, and I think at first I thought it would be the actual soundtrack. (I’ve always loved film scores.) As it turned out, most of the songs weren’t actually featured directly in the film, save Noel Gallagher’s excellent track “Teotihuacan.” Nevertheless, as an impressionable youth it made an impact and it was my first experience of the kind of “inspired by” sort of song collection that occasionally accompanied some films in the past.

In that regard, I thought it might be interesting to compile together a similar kind of playlist for my own faux album for “Different Vessels.” It seems compiling together virtual albums for novels is somewhat en vogue (going based on my own cursory research into marketing ideas), but I’m too lazy to compile together several hours of some kind of virtual OST. Besides, I’m kind of already doing something like that for the audio book still in production, lol

Anyhow, without further adieu, here’s a playlist of a dozen songs I’ve carefully curated that I think reflects in one way or another the themes and motifs of the novel:
